ok, backslashes are the important part here....and you are failing to answer it.

If you don't like the template, just go into preferences and change it.

On a similar note, I experenced the same thing the other day.  I setup a new 
user,
and when I clicked the Notes app, the prefs got reset  I was not setting any 
prefs
at all, I just trying to USE the notes app.  I went through and reset all the 
prefs
and it worked fine after that.  I then setup another user to see if it would do 
it
again and it never did.
