I don't know how to compile zlib.lib but I could send you a compiled one. Just 
drop me a line if you want it.

Yes, you'll need it. We're working with ClanLib 0.6 still which does rely on 
Hermes. If you can't get a recent version anymore I can send you mine along 
with the zlib.lib.
