misc/stty was the only failure on:

$ uname -a
Linux deluxe 2.6.26-2-sparc64-smp #1 SMP Thu Jan 27 03:27:39 UTC 2011 sparc64 
GNU/Linux
$ src/nproc
32
$ head -n1 /etc/issue
Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 \n \l

That's because `stty -icanon` _sometimes_ fails, with this error:
"stty: standard input: unable to perform all requested operations"
Hmm that's familiar, ah yes:

I might just exclude icanon for this reason?
At least on ppc*|sparc*
