OK.  I've committed this patch with option b.  We may want to
reconsider this later.  I can envisage some complex syntax examples,
where the programmer might not know how many variables a dictionary
has.  Some commands I think might be usefull in such a state, for
instance DISPLAY DICTIONARY.
