>From the commit messages on trunk and a summarizing shortlog of the 
committers, it is relatively easy to see that frequent contributors became 
committers, because they earned trust.

>From my short analysis, the most obvious candidates are:

     50 malc
     36 Robert Reif
     24 Hervé Poussineau
     21 Jan Kiszka
     16 Ralf Baechle
     15 Jason Wessel

(Obvious committers already removed from the list).
