You are right that it would be better to have full sourcecode around than a patch against a vanished tarball. But including sources from Debian's package inside QEMU would probably be a lie too since the binary blob contains changes not part of QEMU's patch or the last official tarball.
If there is continued interest in OHW, you could set up its own external Git repository as for kqemu.
