This seems ok in the case of screen. But screen only has one modifier:
control. X has many. Still, -1 was a hack to make things behave more
like screen. Being loose leaves room for bugs. So it is alright that
this is no longer present. If this proves bothersome, a tighter
solution can be thought up.
