this is cool!  im not usually a fan of the split thing, but this is
really cool.  it'd be nice if there was a number printed at the centre
of each window or something, so i could quickly go to that window
after running this command, but i realize that this is not currently
easily possible.  wow, though... nice hack!

I added this to the contrib directory (with jcorneli's fix).
