Follow-up Comment #5, bug #25962 (project rdiff-backup):
I suppose the work around for Heiko's use case is to break your backups into
separate pieces. The important backup can exclude all the less important
files/folders and maintain greater history. The less important backup can
exclude the more important files and contain less history.
The use case of "some large unimportant file was accidentally backed up and I
want to purge it from the backups without losing other history" is still a
problem and I don't see a work around for that.
Andrew's patch sounds like it would solve both problems more elegantly.
