I should really have qualified this a little by explaining a bit more about my
setup. I don't use rdiff-backup as my only backup, I also do nightly backups
to tape, but these tapes are stored off site - so getting a tape back on site
and running a restore could waste a day (much of the work done on this machine
is time sensitive). Therefore 1) above is quite handy as it saves a few hours.
However needing to restore a few files accidentally deleted isn't going to
have a huge impact. But in the case of disaster recovery being able switch
straight over is much better than having 100 people twiddling their thumbs for
a day. If I ever had to do this I know this would kill my rdiff backup
destination directory but I can live with that as its not my only backup (pros
outweigh the cons).
