I'm using rdiff backup to backup my home directory from an OpenBSD system running on an x86 to an OpenBSD system running on a 64 bit spark machine. I'm using OpenBSD 3.3 on both systems. The initial backup works fine but when I run rdiff-backup again I get a metadata file not found warning followed by an IO error.I get the same results on versions 0.12.6 and 0.13.3.
Search for my name in the mailing lists, I've been through trials and tribulations trying to get my faithful old Ultra 5 to backup my x86 machines all running OpenBSD. Its not going to work - Python is unfortunately horribly broken on sparc64, though you almost have a chance if you install gcc-3 from ports, recompile python with that, and go from there. Though, you're still doomed in my experience.
There is hope that python-2.3 isn't horribly broken, but I've given up on this scheme and adopted a different approach. Now I use rdiff-backup on OpenBSD x86, and rsync the repository to my ultra5. (I use the Ultra5 for the off-site part of my backup scheme). Backups of backups, what fun!
