I have; in a past life..;)) distro that is....I goes real good on the
486's too...

Again...in a past life.........that works really good.  You just add the
scripts to do whatever you need. As in untarring...installing
rpms....tarring....Before I learned the actual commandline stuff, I relied
very heavily on that F2 in mc.  This was used originally (where I first
seen it) in Kent Robotti's Doslinux now Looplnx....a Slack deriviative. 
Also to be found in Peanut and Vectorlinux....I think Robotti still has
kind of an upgrade w/scripts that you addon to an existing mc
install....don't have a link...but a search for Looplnx will unearth it
real quick.
