Mailman have it's own password management. It's an pretty unsafe
system: password are sent uncrypted at list creation.

The password for these lists must be known by the person who created
the lists iniatially. Normally, people at address@hidden
should be able to provide these informations. We cannot, as we do not
manage the computer that hosts mailing-list.
We only can reset this password but we should not do that until we are
sure that nobody remember the password (because someone may be using
it still).

Attaching the list to Savannah does not only meaning mentionning the
list on the Savannah project page but being able to modify it's
description, to set it as private (or public), to delete it. That's
why the password is needed, I guess.
