Sorry again, there is an obvious mistake in the command
lines I have just written (I had not written the trailing
"/epsilon" in address@hidden:/cvsroot/epsilon).
Checking out a new copy works, and from the new working
directory everything seems to work. I have messed up my
local working directory in some way I just cannot
understand, but it must be my fault.
So there is no problem at your side, you can close this SR.
Excuse me for wasting your time.

Other notes: not even fetching a new copy of the module
epsilon into a clean working directory works:
-----------------------------------------------
address@hidden /tmp/e2]$ cvs
address@hidden:/cvsroot checkout epsilon
Warning: Remote host denied X11 forwarding.
Cannot access /cvsroot/CVSROOT
No such file or directory
-----------------------------------------------
..and not even using pserver helps; this may be more
interesting:
-----------------------------------------------
address@hidden /tmp/e2]$ cvs
-d:pserver:address@hidden:/cvsroot/savannah login
Logging in to
:pserver:address@hidden:2401/cvsroot/savannah
CVS password: <enter>
address@hidden /tmp/e2]$ cvs -z3
-d:pserver:address@hidden:/cvsroot/savannah co
epsilon
cvs server: cannot find module `epsilon' - ignored
cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot expand modules
address@hidden /tmp/e2]$
-----------------------------------------------
So the problem is definitely not at my side. However this
should be easy for you to fix; I am the only active
developer right now, and I have a copy of the latest
version; there are no branches. You can reset everything and
make epsilon an empty module.
I can re-import everything myself into the CVS repository.
However, how could all of this happen? I am quite sure not
to have done anything strange, but of course I could be wrong...
Sorry for taking your time.
