[Savannah-hackers] Problem with CVS access: permission denied

I'm trying to get CVS access working on savannah.nongnu.org. I followed
the instructions in the FAQ like so:

I added 'Protocol 1' to ~/.ssh/config. There isn't anything else in that
file.

I did an 'ssh-keygen -t rsa1', accepted the default location, and
entered my passphrase. This created '~/.ssh/identity' and
'~/.ssh/indentity.pub'.

I did a 'cat ~/.ssh/indentity.pub' and copied the output to the form as
instructed. There were no newlines in the input, and it was confirmed
that one key was added.

I waited for well over six hours...

$CVS_RSH was already set to ssh.

I tried 'cvs -z3 address@hidden:/cvsroot/stellio co
stellio'. It gave me: 'address@hidden's password:'. I
entered the password I gave to ssh-keygen, and it responded: 'Permission
denied, please try again.'.

I've tried this all a number of times to no avail.

I'm using Gentoo GNU/Linux 1.4_rc4. 'ssh -v' reports:

OpenSSH_3.6.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x009060af

t'main(){system("perl -e\\"'.$_.'\\">o");}'})
