Ok, so whenever I try checking in /cvsroot/auctex/auctex/latex.el,
the process hangs irretrievably.  If I kill it here, on your side it
will stay and keep the lock.

Since it takes hours each time to get a reaction, please try to
salvage the problem checking at your site.  I'd recommend that you
just check out the current version (5.180), touch it (if you need a
change, add 2004 to the year numbers with the copyright) and try
checking it it again.

Tell me when you manage, then I shall try to check in the current
version on top of that.  I can also send you the current version if
necessary.
