Yes, I sent out a patch to savane-dev this morning. :)  This patch actually 
checks that pconnect's are enabled, and fall back for mysql_connect() if they 
fail.  I can apply it to Savannah if there are any problems that crop up.

I don't know why Savane is still using static links.  If your running a large 
site, I'd imagine there would be a a noticable performance increase in 
switching..
