I removed simulavr++ from the repository.

Incidentally, CVS keeps downloading emptied directories, unless you use the -P subcommand option.

I tried similar to the following on all directories:
cvs -d address@hidden:/cvsroot/simulavr remove simulavr++

but I find I still have simulavr++ in my CVS repository:
cvs -d address@hidden:/cvsroot/simulavr co simulavr++
(the above gives me simulavr++ plus a handful of empty directories)
