Details:

I've been getting a complaint by one of the subscribers to
some AVR-related lists (avr-chat, avr-gcc-list) that none
of his emails make it through the nongnu.org list server.
He's getting the following bounce:

This report relates to a message you sent with the following header fields:

Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:

    Recipient address: address@hidden
Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address
Diagnostic code: smtp;550 Sender verify failed
    Remote system: dns;mx10.gnu.org
(TCP|202.159.228.5|46134|199.232.76.166|25) (monty-
python.gnu.org ESMTP Exim 4.34 Sun, 31 Jul 2005 03:34:53 -0400)

riginal-recipient: rfc822;address@hidden

Final-recipient: rfc822;address@hidden

Action: failed

Status: 5.0.0 (Remote SMTP server has rejected address)

Remote-MTA: dns;mx10.gnu.org (TCP|202.159.228.5|46134|199.232.76.166|25)

   (monty-python.gnu.org ESMTP Exim 4.34 Sun, 31 Jul 2005 03:34:53 -0400)

Diagnostic-code: smtp;550 Sender verify failed

Using a different sender address, it (obviously) works. I
tried the address specified, and it seems the target MTA
requires quite a bit of time after the `rcpt to' command
to decide about the validity of the request, but eventually
(after something like 45 seconds) gives a positive response:

% telnet 202.159.228.19 25
Trying 202.159.228.19...
Connected to mx1.mtnl.net.in.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mtnl-av SMTP service ready
helo uriah.heep.sax.de
250 Requested mail action okay, completed.
mail from: <address@hidden>
250 Requested mail action okay, completed.
rcpt to: <address@hidden>
250 Requested mail action okay, completed.
quit
221 mtnl-av closing transmission channel
Connection closed by foreign host.

It responds a lot faster at a second attempt.
