Description:
------------
The project purpose is to facilitate free speech on the internet through
the use of the <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcasting">Podcasting</a>. The intended
name of the project is PodCommunity.
Software package is in the design phase and code development will begin as
soon as the project is registered. It will be built using a free programming
language: PHP and will run with a GPL database system: MySQL. The license of
the PodCommunity, itself, will be GPL, of course.
The software does not do any audio encoding or processing whatsoever, hence
does not have to deal with any audio formats, free or no, in any way. All it
does is manage and publish RSS 2.0 feeds (which include enclosure definitions
to be podcasts).
The idea of the software is that it will manage a community of Ppodcasters.
Right now most of the podcasting software (not many, by the way and mostly
proprietary) just allow individuals to publish content. We believe that the
real power is in community podcasting. For example: a group of experts who
want to cover world economic development. Each of them does a podcast but
their podcasts are grouped and presented as a community to the end-users. This
way users do not have to subscribe to each podcast individually but will have
a feed of all podcasts of the community, or they will be able to choose which
podcasts to combine, depending on their interest.
We believe that thematic podcasting is much more powerful concept than
individual podcasting and people are asking for such software package, as they
can find none. We also believe that there is no better place this software to
be hosted than where free software itself resides.
Other Software Required:
------------------------
PHP, MySQL, Apache
