==== Description: ====
FreeDL is a project to develop 3 things:

1. A library with advanced download acceleration capabilities (download
splitting, resuming, using multiple sources, etc) over HTTP (and perhaps FTP
and other protocols).

2. A simple command-line tool that uses the above library.

3. A cross-platform GUI download manager with features comparable to popular
download managers (such as IDM and DAP)

The reason for this project is because proprietary download accelerators seem
to be far ahead of free software equivalents, and the library component (the
primary focus of the project) is meant to allow any (free) application to use
download acceleration (for instance, for downloading updates and install files
quickly and with resume support). The command-line tool is needed because it
is much more usable in shell scripts and automation, and would not depend on X
(and a GUI toolkit).

Some old testing code can be found at http://freedl.googlecode.com/svn.
By testing code, I mean this does not actually include any library
code, just testing out algorithms to use with HTTP.

==== Other Software Required: ====
The library does not have any external dependencies.

The GUI component will use GTK or Qt4 GPL, which to use has not been decided.
