EOL switch?

Hi,

it seems that some random screen command* switches Screen into
sending ^M instead of a proper newline.

Does anyone here know of a command that switches things
like this?

I have identified Screen to be the definite source of this
problem.

* you know one of those that come out of forgetting that
  C-A alone doesn't mean BOL in a standard screen config
