Personally, I don't mind the exact style used much, as long as it's
consistent. That said, my favourite editor (FTE) uses spaces for
indenting and doesn't allow TABs to be inserted easily. I can change
that, but only globally, not on a per-tree basis.
IMO the best would be to agree on some GNU indent (or whatever open
source tool for that job) options, so I could just run it before
creating the patch.
My first patch [1] (against current CVS) replaces the TABs with
sequences of 4 spaces.
Why not just set your editor to tabstop=4 ?
Because it's a global setting and would mess up other sources which use
the conventional/historical TABstop setting of 8.
