Just in case people hadn't seen this: There's a team at
NASA-Goddard working on an advanced mission design, which
would use a large group of small spacecraft to explore the
asteroid belt:

The talk in the article seems very much like CAS talk; they
speak of the 'emergent' behavior, for a similar project at
JPL near the bottom of the article.
