I've got RPMs available for that thing.

To build yourself, you need to install newer gcc, but I've seen it work with my own eyes. gcc-3.3.2 is the right flavor. You can build gcc in your user space if you don't have root access.

Dont use the "4 year old release", as you put it. Use Swarm-2.1.147 or such. Those are tested very recently on Fedora Core, works fine there.
