(apologies in advance for the twisted e-mail spacing)
I need some advice re installing SWARM on Caldera's eDesktop2.4 OpenLinux
Not seeing this config supported I downloaded the source for swarm-2.1.1
./configure
complained about a missing BLT
I downloaded BLT24
make
make install
and saw three files go into /usr/lib - libBLT.a, libBLT24.a, libBLT24.so
OK - seemed reasonable
./configure
looked good
cd swarm
make
failed to compile src/defobj/internal.m
darn, now what?
tweaked libtool to not suppress output - comment out #suppress=...
./configure
make
and now see
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../.. -I../.. -I../../libobjc -I../../libobjc
-I.. -I./.. -I./../collections -I./../misc
-I/usr/java/include>--I/usr/java/include/linux -I../../avcall -D_GNU_SOURCE
-DBUILDING_SWARM -g
-O2 -Wall -Wno-import -Wno-protocol -Werror -Wno-unknown-pragmas
-Wno-unknown-pragmas -c internal.m -o internal.o
cc1obj: warnings being treated as errors
internal.m: In function `map_java_ivars':
internal.m:588: warning: `count' might be used uninitialized in this
function
internal.m:589: warning: `fi' might be used uninitialized in this function
internal.m:601: warning: `name' might be used uninitialized in this function
internal.m:601: warning: `field' might be used uninitialized in this
function
internal.m:603: warning: `namestr' might be used uninitialized in this
function
internal.m:615: warning: `type' might be used uninitialized in this function
internal.m:621: warning: `fid' might be used uninitialized in this function
make[3]: *** [internal.lo] Error 1
Next, I couldn't figure out how to safely add/change '-w', ignore compiler
warnings. (libtool, ltmain.sh, ltconfig?....my head hurts)
Not sure if that's a good idea anyway.
and I don't want to edit the code....
So after reading more about why I might not need to build from source I
tried to install redhat (why not?) But....
rpm --install swarm-2.1.1-1.rh6.i386.rpm
complains about failed dependencies:
zlib
blt
libBLT24
Question - Does anyone know which of these two paths a) tackling the compile
issue, or b) helping RPM, is more likely to be fruitful?
OR, are these two bottomless pits so buying a Redhat CD is the best way to
skip over them?
Thanks
Tom Ryan
