I take that back:I downloaded ASM-2.4.tar.gz from Paul's site and reproduced Andreas's compiler error: conflicting types for "random". (For me it occurred in a different class, dividend.)
But it did compile in Linux, using Paul's RPMs for Swarm. So maybe there is some kind of conflict between this code and stdlib in Cygwin. Perhaps you could try renaming all the functions related to random numbers??
(The code compiled in Fedora, but it immediately crashed with an obscure buffer overflow.)
