We should follow TeX, that is, both of these cases result in single
(normal interword) spaces, not double (end-of-sentence) spaces. The
user has to use @. to get the correct end-of-sentence space after a
capital letter, regardless of the presence of a ), or ], or ', or any
combination of those three chars.
For example, THING)']. Other thing
is still a single space after the period.
