This is true on RedHat 9 and TeXmacs-1.0.3.2-1.i386.rpm .

Strangely, when I compile from source on the same machine, the problem
does not happen O_o ...

Here's what I did:

su -
rpm -Fvh ~nix/TeXmacs-1.0.3.2-1.i386.rpm # upgrade from 1.0.3-1
exit
tar xvzf TeXmacs-1.0.3.2-src.tar.gz
./configure --prefix=/home/nix/sw
make
make install
which texmacs
(returns ~/sw/bin/texmacs) - just to make sure I'm executing the
from-source version
texmacs &
