With most vi variants if I have line numbers enabled (:set nu) and I use

have vile retain the original line numbers in the [p-lines] buffer or
emulate the other behavior somehow?

vile can do something like that - use "pp" rather than "p" to print the buffer name and original line number (as part of the [p-lines] buffer
rather than in the number column).
