I'm using an older version of vile - 9.8q.  Both files show up in yaml
mode for me.  Perhaps there's been a regression?  Or you have some
other entries in .vilerc which cause in the error?  My .vilerc is
very minmalistic.

One difference is that I ran ``vile *.yaml''.
