Never thought about that (but then I never used a xyplot for any-
thing important) and your proposal sounds to me like a very
reasonable idea. But wouldn't it make more sense to put the
minor ticks at numerically equidistant positions (i.e. for one
minor tick in your example at 5, for two ticks at 3.3333 and 6666
etc.)? I guess I would have trouble figuring out what they repre-
sent otherwise since I'm more used to that kind of ticks on loga-
rithmic scales (especially when there are no numbers to indicate
what they stand for). Of course, they will then bunch on the side
of the upper major tick...

When i get around to implementing that may I come back to you
for having a look if what I cobbled together works as expected?
