I had a dual boot set up for a while, but I let guixSD take care of the grub generation. With guix you can configure the bootloader to boot two different OSs.

I personally found it more useful to have GuixSD manage my grub. And code in my config the other boot option. That way GuixSD generated the grub booting for both GuixSD and the other distro.

I think it's possible, but only for other GNU/Linux distributions, and only when not chain loading. This could of course be improved, but I think those are the current limitations. See "(guix) GRUB C

What does mean “independent”? Do you mean that it's working only for Grub now? I guess others bootloaders could have this if they need to generate a configuration file like “/boot/grub/grub.cfg
