Hello Akira, Thanks for your useful suggestions.

Does adcd work with a digital audio cable?
I don't know. I haven't got any. I use adcd only on old hardware (and
not very much).
Does adcd work on SATA drives? (Do any have analog audio connectors?)
I have got a SATA drive and adcd doesn't work on it because it lacks an
audio connector. I don't know if other SATA drives provide an audio
connector.
How can you tell whether your computer has an audio link between CD-ROM
and motherboard? Is there any way to do this without actually opening
the computer?
Well, I had to open the computer to see it.
I recently replaced a broken CD-ROM drive with a new one. Though
the new drive is detected, can be mounted and files can be read, adcd
produces no sound with it:
[...]
I'd like to determine the cause, but the current documents and error
messages are not helpful.
Adcd uses the kernel commands to play a track, seek, etc. It also
displays the error messages served by the kernel. It seems recent
hardware is losing the ability of directly playing audio CDs. If this is
the case, there is nothing adcd can do.
Best regards,
Antonio.
