It was as I suspected, these packages were not even needed to compile the file.

BTW, lately I had to download a bunch of LaTeX source code files form
the ArXiV. Two observations.

    1. The authors are not aware of more modern latex packages and
       basically use code that could have been used 20 years ago. UTF8
       is usually not used. 7bit the rule.

    2. They don't use the power of modern editors but have
       literally hundred of strange definition like \al for \alpha
       or \be for \begin{eqaution}

That makes it less straightforward to use Auctex filling abilities and
also prettify-symbols-mode for example. Bibtex us also rarely used
biblatex even less (the later is understandable a lot of place still
don't support biblatex fully).

I have talked several times with my colleagues. But «never change a
winning team».

Anyhow just letting you know, since you develop code to make the editor
better.
