I'm not sure what i'm missing, but with the latest auctex from git i get

    File mode specification error: (invalid-function dbus-ignore-errors)

GNU Emacs 24.3.50.29 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw scroll bars) of 
2013-06-23 on relinux
Linux Mint deb 32bit

commit e31a958... works fine, 
commit 536cea74cd65b66c7f8721a2e298c02d9fc4ecef  fails
