Like Uwe, I confirm this works for me as expected.
This behavior is controlled by a couple of options:
`LaTeX-babel-hyphen', and `LaTeX-babel-hyphen-language-alist'. Did
you customize any of them?
I'm pretty sure nothing changed in this mechanism during development
of AUCTeX 11.90 (actually I think this hasn't been touched by anyone
for a while).
