 Could you please provide more details? I'm interested which
"definition" does the configure script fall under and what
restrictions does it impose. I'd call it a "work based on the
library", so it would have to be redistributed under the LGPL, but
since it is a standalone application, does that matter? Doesn't point
5 of the LGPL allow redistributing with software licensed in other
ways? Or is it something else? I'm not a native English speaker, so I
may not have understood it all.

 Sure. But apart from the above, I'd like to know which BSD license is
recommended (I found two or three of them) and what does "GPL plus
Autoconf Exception" look like. Initially, I'd go for the GPL+exception.
