Sorry, I failed to interrupt the sending of this message :( I was
referring to cross_compiling=maybe. Indeed, overriding
AC_COMPILER_EXEEXT hides AC_COMPILER_EXEEXT_WORKS (which is something
I missed), but we lack the cross_compiling part.
