When run in such a mode, ./configure fails as follows. Is this on a text mode or binary mode mount point? Text mode mounts have so many other problems that I'm not inclined to look at it there; I prefer sticking to binary mode mounts, and I don't use the cygwin-specific igncr bash option (even though I implemented it).
This a binary mode mount. I agree with you that text mode mounts are a world of trouble.
I only use igncr when there's a good reason to, and one of these is to make \r problems go away in interactions between Cygwin and non-Cygwin programs in certain configure scripts.
But yes, like Ralf suggested, I'd be interested in your testsuite results with and without igncr and/or a patch along these lines.
OK, I am working on it and I will get back to you. autoconf is profanely slowly on Cygwin: my baseline testsuite run is still not done after many hours of running.
