Is that one of the directories included in your -I directives to aclocal
(either on the command line or via  Also, the point of
autopoint is to copy those macros into your local tree, to make it
easier for you to redistribute those .m4 files to machines that don't
have gettext installed in /usr/share/aclocal.  Once it is copied into
your local tree, aclocal can find them locally.
