Hmm, on looking at this closer, I only fixed config.status, which
happens towards the end of configure, but you are quoting a line that
occurs before config.status is created.

Aha, I found another instance. My first 'git grep' was for 'ac_t=', but by looking for 'for ac_t', I found that Automake is the other culprit that is stomping on autoconf's namespace and also polluting the ac_t variable. Patch to automake coming up shortly...
