The problem with this approach is that it adds linking against
libraries that perhaps one doesn't want.
mysql_config on CentOS
-L/usr/lib64/mysql -lmysqclient -lz -lcrypt -lnsl -lm -L/usr/lib64
-lssl -lcrypto
