If you run 'autoreconf -v', it should call aclocal with the '-I m4' flag
for you.

Please show the that you have.
Please also show the output of
  autoconf --version
  automake --version

Yeah, that was a bug of mine, the else part should probably just be

Sounds like a quoting error happening earlier in configure.
But I cannot easily tell.
