Repeating your test verbatim I get the #error message!  This is

  g++ (SUSE Linux) 4.7.2 20130108 [gcc-4_7-branch revision 195012]
  Copyright (C) 2012 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

  warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

So maybe I'm hitting a bug in the 4.7 series of gcc that has been
fixed meanwhile?

HAVE_STDINT_H is defined as 1 in `config.h'.
