I'll immediately confess to not having followed the details of the
voluminous email exchange over the last couple of weeks. So I have
probably missed something vital.

But in the early stages of this discussion (before we got swamped with
licensing details) hadn't we tried to pursue the idea of asking the author
of Class::Struct about whether the module itself could be upgraded to be
more backwards compatible with earlier versions of Perl5 ?

Did we ever get an answer to that? (I seem to recall an auto-responder
message about him being away from email for a couple of weeks or so.)

Two issues: (1) is it technically realistic; (2) would the author be in
agreement to this being done (whether by him or "us"). If both those are
positive, wouldn't it be a much cleaner solution? (Automake to use the
stock Class::Struct module above a certain revision number.)

Perhaps I missed a vital message saying it was either technically poor
or that the author is not happy/available/...

Could you briefly summarise, please, what happened to that potentially
very clean approach? Thanks.
