scan_autoconf_config_files() and input files

So scan_autoconf_config_files() says:

        ...
        # Handle $local:$input syntax.  Note that we ignore
        # every input file past the first, though we keep
        # those around for later.
        my ($local, $input, @rest) = split (/:/);
        ...

and then only checks the $input file, ignoring @rest.

Anybody have a reason why this should be considered a feature?
