Contact Roland Zitzke <address@hidden> as he has made the necessary changes to gdb5.0 for the AVR. He's not too sure on how to make a patch file, perhaps someone on the list may be able to assist him with this task. I had intended to help but have had little time available recently.

gdb will become very very useful when an AVR simultator magically appears (awaiting the right person to find some spare time :) but can also be used with debug monitor code in the target micro. Denis wrote some code to do this over the SPI port to a GNU/Linux machine with a parallel port programming adaptor, another way would be to use the UART since there is a generic serial port debug interface option in gdb.
