   The binutils now build. (Though I had to add --disable-nls to the
   .configure line, to overcome the autoconf problem that dies with:

 make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/avr/binutils-030428/bfd/po'
 file=./`echo da | sed 's,.*/,,'`.gmo \
   && rm -f $file && PATH=../src:$PATH no -o $file da.po
   /bin/sh: no: command not found

   )

   (Had the same with my ppc-linux cross compiler build, but it works
   fine now.)
