If I grok your dilemma, then it seems sufficient to add to your linker
command script:
__BOOT_START = ADDR(.boot) ; /* If it is called .boot in your case. */
Then in any source file:
jmp __BOOT_START

OK, rjmp then, but there is no longer any uncertainty about location.
